How to Paint Your Deanta Primed Doors
Deanta primed doors are supplied with a high-quality factory-applied primer, providing the perfect base for your chosen paint colour. Unlike unfinished timber doors, no additional priming is normally required, helping you achieve a professional finish with less preparation.
What You’ll Need
- Clean, lint-free cloths
- Mild detergent and water
- Fine abrasive paper (240-320 grit, if required)
- Masking tape
- Paintbrush, mini roller or spray equipment
- A high-quality water-based or oil-based wood paint suitable for interior joinery
- Protective dust sheets
Before You Start
- Ensure the door has been correctly installed and any glazing or hardware has been fitted.
- Wipe down all surfaces using a clean, damp cloth to remove dust, fingerprints and handling marks.
- If required, lightly denib the surface using fine abrasive paper. Do not sand through the primer.
- Allow the surface to dry completely before painting.
Painting in 4 Easy Steps
Step 1: Protect Adjacent Surfaces
Apply masking tape to hinges, handles, locks, glass panels and any areas you do not wish to paint.
Step 2: Apply the First Coat
Using your chosen paint, apply a thin, even coat following the direction of the grain. Avoid overloading the brush or roller, as this can cause runs and uneven coverage.
Step 3: Allow to Dry
Allow the first coat to dry fully in accordance with the paint manufacturer’s instructions. Drying times will vary depending on the paint type and environmental conditions.
Step 4: Apply a Second Coat
Lightly denib between coats if necessary, remove any dust, and apply a second coat for optimum colour depth, durability and finish.
Please always follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions regarding application, drying times and recoating intervals.
Professional Tips for the Best Finish
- Apply multiple thin coats rather than one heavy coat.
- Maintain a wet edge when painting to minimise brush marks.
- Avoid painting in very cold, hot or humid conditions.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying.
